Concrete for Wolf Ranch and west Georgetown — building on limestone instead of clay
West of I-35 the ground changes: caliche and limestone ledge instead of Blackland clay, and subdivisions so new the sod is still rolled out. Different base prep, different price, different problems.
West Georgetown is the newest side of the city — Wolf Ranch on both sides of Highway 29, Rancho Sienna and Water Oak toward Liberty Hill, Parkside on the River, Cimarron Hills, Escalera Ranch and the acreage lots along Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Highway 29 — and almost all of it sits on the Edwards limestone rather than the clay that plagues the east side. That's good news for slabs (limestone doesn't heave) and bad news for excavation (a patio footing can hit ledge six inches down). New homes come with a driveway and a small covered-patio slab; the pool deck, the extended patio, the outdoor kitchen slab, the side-yard pad and the walk to the gate are the homeowner's job.
Our west-side work is patio extensions and outdoor-living slabs, pool decks with the right finish for a hot deck, driveway widenings for the third car, RV and boat pads where the lot and the HOA allow, shop and casita slabs on the acreage lots, and stamped or exposed-aggregate finishes that match the neighborhood. Rock excavation is priced by the site — we probe before we quote — and every HOA out here reviews street-visible work, so we prepare the submittal with the estimate. City of Georgetown permits for approaches and structural slabs; Williamson County for the addresses outside the limits.

Questions from Wolf Ranch & West Georgetown homeowners
Why did my neighbor's patio cost more than mine was quoted?
Rock. On the west side one lot hits limestone ledge at six inches and the next has two feet of soil. We probe every site before the quote so the price you get is the price you pay.
Do I still need a thick slab on limestone?
Thickness is about load, not soil: 4 inches for patios and walks, 5 for driveways, 6 for RV pads and shops. What limestone changes is the base prep — less concern about heave, more about excavation and drainage.
Does the HOA review a backyard patio?
Most west-side HOAs review anything visible from a street or common area and some review all hardscape. We prepare the submittal — sketch, finish, color — with the estimate.
Can you match the builder's driveway finish for a widening?
Yes — same broom direction and joint pattern, doweled to the existing slab. New concrete is a shade lighter for the first year and then blends.
Who issues the permit outside the city limits?
Williamson County for structural slabs; the city for addresses inside Georgetown. Patios and pads on your own lot generally don't need one either way.
