Concrete in Taylor

Concrete for Taylor — historic-district homes, new subdivisions and the county's heaviest clay

The Samsung fab turned a quiet railroad town of 16,000 into the fastest-changing place in Williamson County. New subdivisions, old Victorians, shop slabs on acreage — all of it on deep Blackland clay.

Reinforced concrete slab for a metal workshop on acreage outside Georgetown, TX

Taylor sits twenty minutes east of Georgetown on Highway 79, in the deepest Blackland clay in the county. Its historic downtown and the streets around it — Victorians, foursquares and bungalows from the 1880s to the 1930s, many in the city's historic district — have driveways and walks that have been heaving for a century. The 1970s–90s neighborhoods off Mallard Lane and Carlos Parker Boulevard have the cracked builder concrete of that era. And since Samsung broke ground, subdivisions have been rising along Highway 79, Chandler Road and FM 973 faster than the roads can keep up, on lots that were cotton fields two years ago. Around all of it are farms and acreage where the job is a shop slab, a barn pad or a long driveway.

We build in Taylor for clay: over-excavation, compacted base, rebar on chairs and thicker slabs on every driveway; engineered, turned-down-edge slabs for shops and barns; patios and pool decks in the new subdivisions with the HOA packet handled; RV pads on the acreage; and foam lifting for the historic-district walks and drives that are still in one piece. The City of Taylor permits approaches and structural slabs, and its historic district reviews street-visible changes; we check and prepare what's needed. Free written estimates.

Questions from Taylor homeowners

Is Taylor's clay really worse than Georgetown's?

Deeper, which amounts to the same thing — more soil to swell and shrink. We build the same way we build in Hutto and east Georgetown, with more attention to drainage away from the slab.

Do you pour slabs for metal shop buildings?

Yes — that's a lot of our Taylor work. Engineered thickness, turned-down edges where the building bolts down, a vapor barrier, and anchor bolts set to the manufacturer's drawings.

Does the historic district review a driveway?

It reviews street-visible changes; a driveway that changes material or width can be one. We check the address and prepare the application if it's needed. Like-for-like replacements are simpler.

Can you get to a new subdivision that isn't on the map yet?

Yes — send us the lot address and the builder's plat and we'll find it. We've been pouring in the Highway 79 subdivisions since the first slabs.

Who issues the permit for a shop on acreage outside the city?

Williamson County, and it's usually tied to the building permit for the shop. We coordinate with your building supplier.
